Every orthodontist straightens teeth, but not every orthodontist can do it successfully with Invisalign. In school we’re taught how to straighten teeth with braces, and many orthodontists stick to this method when they go into practice. Not me.
I’ve always believed in staying at the cutting edge of technological advances, and Invisalign is the biggest innovation we’ve seen in the orthodontic industry ever. I’m proud to have been a 1st adopter of this technology, and I’ve built my practice and reputation around it.
What does this mean to my patients?
This means you’ll get an outstanding finish with an appliance that’s easier and more comfortable for you. Invisalign isn’t the same in every doctor’s hands. It’s a highly technique sensitive product that requires a honed skill level to accomplish perfect results. I’ve treated over 3300 cases personally, which is among the highest in all of North America.
My Belief in Invisalign
I’ve seen the power of Invisalign from the very beginning. While my fellow orthodontists were hesitant to adopt the new technology in the early 2000’s, I saw it is the bright future of orthodontics. It’s amazing to me how many orthodontists still do not see the power of this clear, removable appliance as a standard of care for their patients.
I had to dedicate myself to learning extensively on my own – as I said, most of us were not taught how to use it in school. I not only committed to learning everything I could myself, I’ve been a longtime speaker for Align Technology and have extensively trained other providers on the Invisalign technology.
My confidence in Invisalign being the future of orthodontics comes in part because of the excellent experience it gives my patients, and also in the continued innovation of the product. Invisalign today isn’t the same as Invisalign 10 years ago – it can do so much more! Align Technology continues to invest millions in research and development, bringing huge advances to the product every year. One of the best advances was being able to combine Invisalign treatment with the iTero digital scanning technology, to eliminate gloppy impressions and provide a perfect digital image for the most accurate treatment planning.
Why My Patients Prefer Invisalign
The most important thing to me in choosing to center my practice around Invisalign is that my patients enjoy it so much. One of the biggest factors is the aesthetics of wearing clear aligners versus the traditional “metal mouth” braces.
For my adult patients, Invisalign has opened them up to orthodontics where they may have never considered it before. No one wants to have braces while giving a presentation in the board room, or speaking at a PTA meeting. For my teenage patients, they find they’re so much more confident during those transitional teenage years when they’re able to smile broadly without worrying if there’s food caught in their braces.
All of my patients experience less pain and discomfort with Invisalign. It’s a gentler force system than braces, so it’s more comfortable throughout treatment. Also, there’s virtually no “emergency” visits – which is great because that’s the last thing Mom needs to fit into her busy schedule! With braces, patients can have poky wires and broken brackets that are uncomfortable until we can fix them. This isn’t an issue with Invisalign. Another benefit is patients need to be seen less frequently than with braces, so there’s fewer appointments to fit into already hectic lives.
