If you have been searching for an orthodontic option for your child, you might be wondering what the best time to get them started on it is. If they are too young, you might worry that they might not be compliant with Invisalign.
Interestingly enough, when considering an evaluation for orthodontics, the American Association of Orthodontics suggests an initial visit at the age of 7. Surprised? Most folks are.
Keep reading to find out more about Invisalign for teens and why the younger, the better when it comes to orthodontic treatments.
Phase 1 Treatment Recommendations
If a growing patient has a small palate and not enough room for the permanent teeth to erupt, then a Phase I treatment might be recommended. A Phase I treatment might also be recommended for other reasons like an overbite, underbite, or crossbite (where the teeth don’t fit together as they should).
At Boschken Orthodontics, we offer a choice of Invisalign or Braces to treat patients and help them get the many benefits of straight teeth.
Start Them Young on Invisalign
Believe it or not, young patients (7-11 yrs old) are our best Invisalign patients. At this age, patients wish to wear the aligners and like the independence we give them to choose.
Braces and Invisalign both require compliance. Our patients who have braces need to keep their teeth clean after each meal. They also need to avoid sticky and chewy foods to prevent damage to their braces.
With Invisalign, patients can continue to eat all their favorite foods and not have to avoid popcorn, nuts, and candies, that is, foods they would have to avoid with braces. Invisalign is also much more comfortable as it doesn’t have brackets and uncomfortable wires that poke them.
Our Invisalign patients also don’t have to experience extra appointments to fix broken brackets or wires that are out of place.
Let Dr. Boschken Help You Decide
If you are still unsure if you should get your child braces or Invisalign because you are worried they aren’t ready for it, start off with a complimentary consultation at our office.
We will walk you through the benefits of both so you can make the right choice for your family. While Dr. Boschken might recommend orthodontics, it is equally important that our patients are on board to begin the process.
Without full participation from the patient and their families, we can’t achieve our mutual goals, which is a beautiful smile for your child! As a bonus, we charge the same for Invisalign as we do for braces, so you don’t have to worry about costs when it comes to making your choice.
Benefits of Invisalign for Teens
As you can see, there are many benefits of Invisalign for teens, because they don’t have to worry about being made fun of because of their metal braces. But if you wish to fix your child’s smile sooner rather than later, you can get them Invisalign or braces as soon as they are 7 years old.
Contact our office to set up a consultation where we can discuss your options further. You are not alone in this journey; we are with you all the way!
